The sheer volume of responsibilities that women face every day can be overwhelming, whether we are juggling work commitments, looking after children and family members, maintaining relationships, or just trying to fit everything in!
It’s no wonder that stress has become a normal part of life for many women. The impacts of stress can have significant consequences for our mental and physical wellbeing.
In this blog post, Jane explores the many ways in which stress affects us as women, the strategies we can use to manage this inevitable emotion, and how nurturing our own self-love practices can help us enjoy the highs and the learnings life offers.
High cortisol* levels can lead to symptoms such as increased anxiety, sleeping problems, fatigue, headaches, and an inability to focus. It is important to recognise when our bodies are experiencing high levels of stress, so we can take steps to reduce them.
The science part is, your brain will keep telling you, “you can survive”. But it’s up to you to change the narrative; we all deserve to thrive, not just survive. The first step in reclaiming your physical and mental health is by having awareness of potential triggers.
*Cortisol is the stress hormone; it is a chemical released as a warning sign to our bodies that triggers the well know ‘fight or flight’ response.
Stress and poor self-awareness nearly took my life.
“In 2018 I had lifesaving surgery, following a ruptured aneurysm which carriers a risk of 98% mortality. I was in recovery and in an NHS hospital, therefore my only option was to survive. You could label this life event as many things, but having fought hard to understand it, I know this was a build-up of years of self-neglect, working a stressful job, with long hours, and living with high levels of cortisol, whilst not looking after my physical or mental health.
Having faced the serious consequences of stress, I am passionate about life and living a balanced, authentic life. It’s for this reason that am a Transformational Life Coach and hands-on Reiki Healer. I support women to heal what no longer serves them, re-frame the stories they have been told and find the most authentic version of themselves, by taking accountability of self, creating a list of non-negotiables, prioritising self-care and self-love whilst removing limiting beliefs.
Personally I have two re-sets a year; in September and January I plan retreats and learning at these times. Humans evolve, they don’t stand still. When you know better, you do better.”
“My message to you is to be kind and gentle to yourself. It takes courage to ask for help, and be vulnerable. Seek advice, take a break or change something in your life – this can be the first step towards living a fulfilling life with balance and harmony.”
