What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique is a self-help technique that re-educates your body back into good postural habits by optimising the natural balance of the head, neck and back.

It increases your body awareness, improves natural movement and makes you more mindful. It will also improve your balance, co-ordination and posture in everything you do. The Alexander Technique is a gentle and beneficial treatment that complements other disciplines and treatments.

What happens in a session?

The Alexander Technique is taught in 1 2 1 sessions. During the lesson you will be guided through simple movements such as sitting, standing and walking. Together we will observe unhelpful habits that are restricting easier, freer movement.

You will learn simple techniques that can help you find greater sense of ease, as you start to recognise and release those habits; this learning can then be applied to everything you do.

Did you know this technique can…?
  • Promote confidence and energy
  • Relieve muscular tension and stiffness
  • Ease back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Help you manage and control symptoms of stress
  • Enhance body image
  • Develop better balance and co ordination
  • Improve performance and prevent injury in sport and music

Ellie Rouse has been teaching the Alexander Technique since 2016.

As well as teaching privately she also teaches at a primary school in Kingston-Upon-Thames and has taught at various different performance schools throughout the UK.

“Ultimately the Alexander Technique has helped me to feel in control of my own health and wellbeing. It is a peaceful and profound practice that reduces pain and tension, creating ease and calm in both my body and mind.”
